Late Starter

For years now I've checked my friends blogs to see what they were up to. I watched as more and more of my friends joined the blog world, and thought to myself "I will never have a blog". Look at me now, writing my first entry, eating my words, knowing that eventually I'll have to confess what I've done.

In Portland we have an iconic statue looming over our city, her name is Portlandia.

One day my friend Alie (here she is with an awesome hat on)
started calling me Caitlandia which was quickly shortened to Landy. Then I decided I needed a b-girl name because I was sure that I was meant to be a break dancer. I held a contest to determine what my new b-girl name should be. **This contest has ended, please do not make new submissions**

Rules of the Contest:
You must submit an entry to me within the next two weeks. I will accept entries in person, over the phone or through email.

The winner recieves:
*bragging rights
*gets to be the first person to see some of my moves

I received some great entries. One of my favorites was Landy Cane which was submitted by my friend Ryan.

He was going to be the winner until at the last minute I got shy and decided I couldn't show him my break dancing moves. I didn't know what to do because the contest was clearly in place and there was no shutting it down. I had a moment of brilliance and decided I could also put in an entry so I submitted the name Landylicious. Of course Landylicious won, really how could it not. ( After showing myself some of my moves I was grateful I had made a last minute submission).

My nickname has evolved to include any name that rhymes with or sounds remotely close to landycane or landylicious. So now I respond to such names as novacaine, cocaine and landyvicous. And sometimes some sweeter names too like candy cane and landylou.

I like my name. I like my friends. I like my life....

Caityln!! I am so excited to hear from you. I'm always excited to hear about you or from you. It's weird starting a blog. I felt super egocentric when I started. I mean, who wants to read my ramblings. That said, I am so excited you started one so I can keep tabs on your life. I'm assuming that's okay since you still keep me on your g-list.

Landilicious!!!!!!!!!!! So great to see you on a blog. You have really made my day and that isn't easy on a Monday. I still think that it was shady that you won your own b-girl nickname contest, but I do love the name Landilicious so I can't be too upset. Remember when we went to that b-boy battle at Portland State? That was amazing. I really think your next blog post should be a video post debuting your dancing skilz to the blogging world. On second thought, I am not sure Google could handle the traffic. Perhaps the world will have to wait.
